Business Approach

Effective commercial management not only allows Murray & Roberts to manage these risks but also protects valued relationships with client, customers, suppliers and partners.

Managing Risk

We embrace risk within our culture. We recognise that our greatest potential area of risk lies in our selection of strategy and markets. We manage these risks through carefully constructed commercial arrangements governing the delivery of projects and products.

This approach extends to the procurement of goods and services, which comprise the largest portion of our cost make up. Effective commercial management not only allows Murray & Roberts to manage these risks but also protects valued relationships with client, customers, suppliers and partners. This is central to our strategy and belief system.

Drawing on our Diversity

Contracting is a people-dependent business and Murray & Roberts' success rests on the skills and commitment of all our employees. A key to achieving superior performance vests in our ability to leverage the great energies and talents of our people. Because of the interesting projects we secure, we tend to attract the very best talent, with a diverse set of experiences and backgrounds, capable of initiative, and with a drive and a passion for what we stand for - our vision, strategy, values and beliefs. This diversity comes not only from the many rich cultures of southern Africa but is enhanced through the projects we implement around the world.

Partnerships

In all of our markets, we try to work with partners in one form or another. Different levels of partnerships are critical to our ability to deliver sustainable earnings growth and value creation. They help us to access new markets, enhance our technology capability, deliver on black economic empowerment in South Africa and ultimately, deliver quality projects.

This has highlighted the need for us to engage our partnerships with a high degree of diligence. When engaging partnerships, we will appraise partners and ourselves in terms of capacity and capability, aspirations, values and cultural compatibility. We will also exercise the courage and ability to exit partnerships when the above fundamentals change for either party.

International Presence

Murray & Roberts Construction is South African and we will continue to pursue growth in our chosen regional and international markets from our domestic base. Delivering major projects in the developing world is a cornerstone of our global strategy. We currently operate in southern Africa, the rest of Africa and the Middle East.
